On September 3rd 2004 Hellboy - the latest big screen
comic book blockbuster - hits a screen near you.
Free@Last TV has made
a 30-minute TV special, which will be aired on both
Channel 5 and ITV2 in the week leading up to this
landmark release to celebrate the comic cult favourite
Hellboy’s first cinema adventure. The film stars
Ron Perlman as Hellboy, John Hurt as Professor Broom
and Selma Blair as firestarter Liz Sherman.
The Story of Hellboy
Hellboy was born in the flames of hell and brought
to our world in a pagan ritual. Born to bring
about the apocalypse, Hellboy is saved by mentor,
the benevolent Dr. Broom . Hellboy is raised in
Broom's Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defence, where
he works alongside 'Mer-Man' Abe Sapien,
Liz Sherman, the woman Hellboy loves who can psychically
control fire, and Myers, the FBI agent, who is his
rival for Liz's affections. Together, our heroes
must come to terms with their fantastic powers that
prove to be both a blessing and a curse. In the
process they discover that their abilities might
serve to benefit mankind but keeps them forever
isolated from the society that only they can protect.
Hellboy was released on April 2nd 2004
in America , the $66 million film has earned
over $70 million in its first month of release.
The Hellboy Special
Our TV special traces the origin of Hellboy from
comic book icon to big screen hero and features
interviews with the cast of the film as well as
director and screenwriter Guillermo Del Toro,
Mike Mignola, Hellboy’s creator alongside
a range of British experts including writer
Kim Newman, author Mike Conroy, Richard Matthews,
editor of the Official Hellboy movie magazine and
film critic Daniel Etherington who will discuss
the development of the Hellboy movie and the story
at the heart of the film.
Hellboy is rated PG-13 for sci-fi action,
violence and frightening images.
