Stephen King is a master storyteller who is second to none in
the horror genre. In this series of short films we take a loving
look at the prolific career of one of the greatest writers of
the modern age, accompanying us on our way are six of his most
sterling supporters including fans, experts and esteemed peers.
1. Great Stories
A prolific story teller of over 30 years, every single King novel
is a success. From the very first published novel, Carrie in 1976
to his more recent Liseys Story, King is unstoppable. He has inspired
whole a generation to read and is a cultural icon.
“His passions are incredibly important they’re
complicated they’re beautifully written he’s a wonderful
writer and anybody who doesn’t think so is just simply wrong”
Muriel Gray, Journalist and Broadcaster
2. The Fear
Factor
The master of terror, no one can frighten the pants off us like
Stephen King. Whether it’s a clown, car or dog he manages
to make the ordinary and mundane scary as hell! Although the question
most commonly asked of him is ‘where do you get your ideas
from’ you almost don’t want to know how the mind of
the master of the macabre works – probably quite a scary
place!
“There is something primal, something deep with us so
that we like to be frightened we like to be spooked”
Ewen Macintosh, Actor and Writer
3. Heroes
and Villains
With his ability to write such well-drawn characters, King can
create heroes and villains that you love to love and love to hate.
His villains can be pure evil, or simply misguided and his heroes
are always human and tend to be flawed, which the reader can always
relate to.
“Stephen King is one of those writers who has created
really double dyed bad villains, but all his heroes tend to be
flawed, they are overcoming drink problems or relationship problems
and it may also be that if a hero wasn’t flawed they wouldn’t
be scared” Kim Newman, Novelist and Critic
4. Evil Never
Wins?
Does good always win? Not necessarily in a King novel. Always
keeping the reader guessing until the end, King manages to keep
the balance between good and evil believable. Never too good but
often a lot evil, King is essentially an ethical writer whose
beliefs come through in his work.
“Stephen King is a very moral author and I think in
most of his stories good wins out in some way and evil is vanquished”
Chris Hewitt, Empire Magazine
5. King of
Genres
Is there nothing this man can’t write? Drama, science fiction,
fantasy, horror, thriller, Stephen King can write them all. He
covers all genres with an enviable ease with his incredible narrative
skills and versatility as a storyteller.
“I don’t think anybody writing a horror or genre
fiction anywhere in the world over the past 20 years, could not
fail to be influenced by Stephen King. He has both inspired and
completely depressed just about every writer I know”
Sarah Pinborough, Author “The Taken” |
