   
WHERE NU MUSIC CAME FROM:
Nu Music was the result of a conversation I had with Play UK controller Matthew Littleford where we were discussing the decline of music television and the domination of the available television spots for music by the same manufactured teen-oriented stuff and that there was nowhere you could discover what was out there beyond the obvious teeny crap that Radio One and all the other stations play to death.
He had the vision to commission the show on the basis of a verbal pitch and we decided there and then that Nu would be everything that other music shows on tv at the time weren't:
- Specially shot performances
- Whole tracks not just excerpts
- Music worth hearing - especially if 'unfashionable'
- New acoustic music
- Urban - including reggae
- Issue led with intelligent commentary
and so in May 2001 we set about making Nu Music the series.
TITLES
The titles for Nu Music were designed by our favourite graphic designer Gareth Price in Manchester and he designed these in response to the music which we commissioned from legendary composer and former Birthday Party and Bad Seed member Barry Adamson.
