'Punk was a revolution ... a revolution of the Mind'
Mark Perry 'Sniffin' Glue'

Punk rock turned up on the doorstep of British culture in 1976 and beat the shit out of it. A revolutionary and unstoppable force, where it led to knew no way back and British music, fashion and culture would never be the same again. Punk's traces are everywhere. Transmitting as part of Punk Night on ITV4 timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Sex Pistols infamous appearance on the Bill Grundy Show in 1976, the Story of Punk is designed to be a definitive telling of the birth of punk rock in the 1970's as well as it's impact and legacies.

The programme features interviews with the people who witnessed punk including journalists Caroline Coon, Vivien Goldman and Jon Savage, the people who captured it including filmaker and DJ Don Letts, Photographers Roberta Bayley and Dennis Morris and the people who created it including founder Sex Pistols John Lydon and Glen Matlock, Ari Up and Viv Albertine from The Slits, Rat Scabies and Brian James from the Damned and many many more.

In examining the US origins of punk rock our film features
Marky & Tommy Ramone, Hilly Kristal founder of the home of New York punk CBGB's filmed in the summer before the venue closed it's doors forever.  We also look at the American influence of punk from the point of view of Wayne Kramer guitarist with the legendary MC5. The Story of Punk also features an exclusive première of never before seen live footage recorded at a basement gig in 1970 with the classic Kick Out The Jams line-up.

The film traces the journey of punk rock from underground to overground charting the pivotal events along the way that acted as the thumping tom-tom for it's anarchic and rebellious message; including Malcom Mclaren's Kings Road Shop to the Westway roots of the Clash, the Buzzcocks to the 100 Club climaxing with the Grundy show moment when punk became synonymous with a four letter salute and a green haired pantomime of pop. The film rounds up with an examination of the legacies of punk rock where it led us to and what it changed.

'Highly entertaining, well-researched, characteristically mischievous ... & thrilling'
