Midsomer Murders
This English crime drama series, based
on books by Caroline Graham features John Nettles as Chief
Inspector Tom Barnaby of the Causton C.I.D., a laconic,
down-to-earth detective who faces many ingenious and remarkable
murders (usually several in each episode) amid the eccentric
denizens of Middle England. Midsomer Murders first hit
our screens in 1997 with the pilot episode 'The Killings
at Badgers Drift'. Based on the Inspector Barnaby Books
the series is filmed in beautiful English villages in
and around the Buckinghamshire are. As well as the usual
mystery\suspense you would expect from this type of drama
there is also a strong humorous undercurrent and the opposing
traits of the two main characters. |

A Touch Of Frost
Based on the crime novels of R.D.
Wingfield, the long-running British television series
A Touch of Frost stars award-winning actor David Jason
as scruffy police detective Jack Frost. Tracking down
wrongdoers in the fictitious town of Denton, England,
Frost solves cases with a healthy dose of humour and an
unconventional style that places him at odds with both
criminals and his own police force. Frost bucks the trend
of contemporary crime fiction - he is understated, in
the midst of often humdrum situations, with a "hero"
who is merely quirky and diligent . . . and utterly sexless. |

Wycliffe
Wycliffe was a British TV series based on W.J. Burley's
novels about Detective Superintendent Charles Wycliffe.
It was broadcast on ITV between 1993 and 1998.
The series was set in Cornwall, and many of the crimes
Wycliffe (Jack Shepherd) had to solve were connected in
some way to drug smuggling operations. He was assisted
by DI Doug Kersey (Jimmy Yuill) and DC, subsequently DI,
Lucy Lane (Helen Masters). Filmed in Cornwall, and a production
office in the County capital, Truro. Wycliffe always seemed
to put the job first, and family commitments second. His
anniversary party saw him being called away for another
incident for his team to deal with. |
