Due South is the award-winning Canadian television
police drama created by Paul Haggis The series starred
Paul Gross and David Marciano and for 68 hours of action-packed
television from 1994 until 1998. Due South
followed the adventures of a fictional Mountie Benton Fraser
and his wolf companion Diefenbaker, living and working in Chicago.
Fraser's methods, usually more sensitive and understanding than
is typical for police work, gave the series a reputation for
well-rounded characters.
To coincide with the repeat of the series on
ITV3, Free@Last TV takes a loving look at the story of this
1990's classic in an hour long celebration South
Bound. Dubbed the series that wouldn't die, Due
South was an instant hit on BBC1 but it's domestic
history would be much more complicated. In our one hour celebration
of the series we chart the origins of the series as a made for
TV movie and it's subsequent seasons.
South Bound is narrated
by Canadian comedian Phil Nichol, winner of the 2006 if.comedies
award (formally the Perrier Awards) and will be broadcast as
part of ITV3's Due South day on December 30th 2006 as families
and fans prepare for the New Year the program is a warm, cozy
treat that all the family will enjoy.
South Bound’ features
a heartfelt series of intimate reminisces by the cast including
paul Gross (Benton Fraser), David Marciano (Ray Vecchio), Callum
Keith Rennie (Stanley Kowalski), Catherine Bruhier (Inspector
Margaret Thatcher) and many more as we reveal the origins, legacy
and behind the scenes stories of the ever popular Canadian police
comedy drama. Mixing interviews, with classic clips from the
series, the program paints a portrait of television series that
is still and will be forever fondly remembered by both the cast
and its fans.
The programme also features a guided tour
of the Toronto locations that understudied for Chicago in the
show courtesy of actress Romona Milano (Francesca), in addition
we examine the rich history of the Mountie in film and television with insights
on Canada from comedian Mike Wilmot. |
