In 2002 Free@last TV made a highly acclaimed documentary
about Spider-Man, the big screen adaptation of the
classic comic book superhero.
Spider-Man was first introduced in the Marvel comic
Amazing Fantasy #15 (August 1962). Peter Parker,
a Senior at Midtown High School, receives his powers
when bitten by a radioactive spider in a science
demonstration. This bite endowed him with the proportional
strength and agility of a spider along with a keen
'spider sense'.
Directed by acclaimed director Sam Raimi, a self-confessed
Spider-man fanatic, who most recently directed the
box-office hit For Love of the Game and the critically
acclaimed A Simple Plan, The Spider-Man Story seized
the moment with a compelling narrative encompassing
40 years of Spider-Man action and heroism across
every level of pop culture including comic books,
newspapers, radio, computer games, three decades
of cutting edge television animation and ultimately
the latest feature length incarnation.
The film featured interviews with the stars of the
movie; Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and the creator
Stan Lee. The film told the story of Spider-man
the icon while building a behind the scenes picture
of the making of a box office smash, and culminating
in the launch of the film in the USA prior to it's
launch in the UK.
