On Friday 8th September, Star Trek is 40 years
old. Undoubtedly, the biggest show in the history of science fiction,
it went on to spawn four TV series, an animated series and 10 blockbuster
movies.
Star Trek made household
names of its stars William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and many many
others whose adventures in another time and dimension have gripped
the world for 4 decades. Star Trek exerts an influence on the genre
matched only by Star Wars. It is a cultural phenomenon.
To coincide Sci-Fi channel is running a Star Trek anniversary season
featuring the original series and 6 of the ST movies stripped across
the week.
In addition the channel has commissioned F@L TV to create a series
of 20 1-minute shorts celebrating the top 20 reasons to love Star
Trek and it’s awe-inspiring contribution to science fiction,
television and pop culture.
The reasons have been hilariously scripted by comedienne and presenter
Jenny Ross and include profiles of Captain Kirk, Dr Spock and Lt
Uhura as well as Chekov, Bones and McCoy. Other shorts will examine
Trek perennials such as the Transporter, Communicators and the Enterprise.
Further shorts examine Trek Tussles, Polystyrene Rocks, Space Booze
and the Plants from other planets. |
