Saturday & Sunday November 2004 from 8pm
UKTV Gold
The classic Britcom, The Vicar Of
Dibley celebrates its 10th anniversary in November 2004.
Unbelievable isn’t it? To mark this anniversary UKTV
Gold has commissioned Free@Last TV to make a special
weekend of Dibley programming.
Starring Dawn French in one of her
most loved roles; The Vicar Of Dibley is a creation
of Richard Curtis whose credits include Blackadder,
Four Weddings & A Funeral, Notting Hill and the
two Bridget Jones movies and is centred on the small
English village of Dibley and their idiosyncratic and
unique Vicar.
BENEATH THE CASSOCKS
Although, on paper, this may seem like yet another entry
in the canon of religious-themed sitcoms, The Vicar
Of Dibley, like Father Ted had a decidedly 1990s feel.
The ordination of female vicars was still a controversial
and topical issue when the series first launched, and
the debate was a timely addition to the Britcom canon.
Dibley was inspired by real-life Reverend
Joy Carroll of Streatham who has since relocated to
the US. Over the last ten years The Vicar Of Dibley
has been a mainstay of the UKTV Gold schedule and a
constant high rating show.
In this weekend we will be showing
the best episodes from across the ten year history alongside
a series of short films celebrating the stars and the
characters including a guided tour of the real Dibley
and a look at where the series came from and will celebrate
the Dibley experience as a central part of the UKTV
Gold nation. |
