As a partner in Free@Last TV, Katie Kinnaird brings with her a reputation for innovative and first-class filmmaking. Initially working as a production secretary in the drama department of BBC Scotland, Katie gained a wealth of experience working across a variety of programmes including Takin’ Over The Asylum, The Blue Boy and Tartan Shorts. A move to BBC Presentation in London saw Katie work within TV promotions, then as studio PA on the live links from the ‘broom cupboard’ for CBBC, and eventually onto magazine music show The O Zone where she combined her passion for music with that of television. It was within BBC Music Entertainment that Katie quickly progressed, learning her craft as a single camera director within The O Zone, Glastonbury inserts and various singles, including The Hot Press Awards, Back To Skool – Hip Hop Special and Radio 1 Goes Mad In Ibiza. Katie progressed to multi-camera studio and live music performance directing on The Phone Zone and music discussion show, Inside Tracks, where she also developed her now-honed editing skills. Before departing the BBC, Katie had re-designed and was series producing Inside Tracks for BBC Choice.

In her first year in the independent sector, Katie series directed The Dog’s Balearics for C4 music, directed the pilot and subsequent 55-part antiques & social-history series, Revealing Secrets, for C4 daytime and directed 28 x two-minute drama inserts for the groundbreaking internet special, Life On Mars for E4.com.

She has series produced several productions, including a ten-part music and personal biography series about Ibiza called Ibiza - Barefoot in the Med, a ten-part biographies series Sex, Drugs & Ruck N Roll, 15 live-action comedy shorts, Come Play UK and Party, plus a six-part fact-based music history series, Rock N Roll Myths which she also directed, for Channel 4. Katie has also produced and directed several single films, including a history of the comic book character, Hellboy, a celebration of the children’s work of Roald Dahl, The Wonderful World Of Roald Dahl, plus an in-depth history of the infamous comic character, Batman. In addition, Katie produced and directed Once Upon A Time … a series of film introductions presented by Alex Cox for an ITV4 Spaghetti western series, and Executive produced the UKTV Gold events for Porridge @ 30 and The Vicar Of Dibley @ 10.
