Steve Fraser: Artist
 |
Steve Fraser was born in June 1969 at
the height of the Summer of Love – in the bleak ferry town of
Stranraer, Scotland. Instead of fading into the dockside landscape,
this introspective Scotsman has successfully trawled through the
dark recesses of his psyche, to create outstanding images, which
both liberate and haunt our thoughts.
A talented musician as well as artist, Steve Fraser spent his
teenage years on the road, as lead guitarist with a succession
of rock bands, playing small venues and bedding down for the night
in VW Campers.
By the age of 21 Fraser had visited Grimsby more times than anyone
needs to & suffered numerous electric shocks from dodgy PA
systems wired up by drug-fuelled roadies. Motorway madness was
taking over. Realising that if he planned to stay on the road,
he could do better than the M6, Steve packed a rucksack and took
a one-way ticket to Mississippi.
After two years of dueling banjos, four months sailing a prawn
trawler through Alaska & six months in Mexico, Steve headed
for South East Asia, studying orang-utans in Borneo and French
in Vietnam. Returning to Montreal, he fell in with a group of
artists, and lived in their studio space while he developed his
extraordinary talent at the Concordia University.
The combination of his powerful imagination and diverse life experiences
are reflected in his art. Steve Fraser has never been restricted
by style or genre, preferring to mix the equation whenever possible.
Essentially a fine artist specialising in oil on canvas, acrylics
and pastels, the artist uses a variety of textures & mediums
to enhance his unique vision. |
