Christian
Manley:
TV Presenter and Comedy
Writer
Christian
was involved with the
launch of Nation
217, off the
back of his street stunt
show, ‘Kamikaze’,
which was commissioned
by the channel. He presented
‘Celebrity
Battleships Live’
for Nation, 6 nights
a week, as well as other
live quiz shows during
the day .He, for a year,
consistently received
the most public phone
calls for any presenter
on this phone call generated
revenue TV station.
Due to his success he
has been asked to devise
new show ideas for the
Channel.

Before then, he worked
on Endemol UK’s
‘The
Collective’
on Channel 4 where his
sketches were voted
the best by viewers.
This has led him to
develop another sketch
show with Zenith TV
and a project with MTV
Europe.
Christian began life
as a baby in the quiet
Jamaican shantytown
of South Wales. Since
then he has been progressively
getting older, much
to the annoyance of
those around him. He
got his first presenting
gig at 17 when he was
asked to devise and
host a youth magazine
format for HTV, after
bombarding the station
with ideas… and
threats. Like many popular
shows of the genre ‘Tribe’
was a dangerous mix
of features, sketches
and interviews, which
happily coincided with
the rise of many Welsh
bands from Wales, such
as The Manics, Catatonia
and The Stereophonics.
The programme gave him
the opportunity to travel…
sometimes as far as
Swansea.
Following the success
of ‘Tribe’,
he was asked back to
devise and present other
formats such as ‘Don’t
Try This At Home Kids’-
a game show with steps
that light up and a
house band in the bathroom-
and ‘Playing For
Time’, a children’s
quiz show, that with
hindsight was possibly
a very bad idea.
He has produced and
hosted shows on Radio
Warwick, such as comedy,
‘Warwick Strip
Lights’; ‘Raw
Footage’, a film
roundup and ‘Spotlight’-
a what’s on guide
to the West Midlands
(quite a short programme).
He wrote and performed
‘Crustacean for
the Nation’ for
MC Saatchi, the sound
track for a giant crab
who stood against Michael
Portillo in the Kensington
and Chelsea bi-election
and paid his landlord
by hosting corporate
events, such as the
launch of the ‘imac’
for Apple Computers,
‘Tomorrow’s
World Live’ for
BBC and ‘Brave
New Word’ at the
East Dulwich Tavern,
as well as modelling
for a Virgin Phones
campaign.
